Online Seminar – Hegel’s Master-Slave Dialectic

In this intensive online seminar, Greg will lead participants in study of G.W.F. Hegel’s famous “Master-Slave Dialectic” portion of the Phenomenology of Spirit (paragraphs 178-196).

Enrollment in the seminar is restricted to 12 participants, and costs US$49.00.  To register, or to get on our list for future seminars, click here.

There are no prerequisites for this . Anyone interested in this topic can join. Hegel is notoriously difficult reading, but this is a short section, and I’ll be suggesting some useful resources that might make studying this rich text significantly easier.

We will be using the Miller translation of the Phenomenology of Spirit (get a copy of it here) as the standard text for this reading group and seminar.  The platform we’ll be employing for video conferencing and screen sharing is FreeConferenceCall.

As the producer of the ongoing Half Hour Hegel project, I tackled this portion of the text about a year ago, and I’ve got an entire sequence of eight 25-35 minute videos providing a close reading and commentary on this entire section available for you.

Lecture 72 – paragraphs 178-181
Lecture 73 – paragraphs 182-184
Lecture 74 – paragraphs 185-187
Lecture 75 – paragraphs 188-189
Lecture 76 – paragraphs 190
Lecture 77 – paragraphs 191-193
Lecture 78 – paragraphs 194-195
Lecture 79 – paragraph 196

If you’d like something a bit less intensive, I’ve also got a roughly 1 hour classroom lecture from an Introduction to Philosophy class, specifically on the Master-Slave Dialectic.
