Epictetus’ Enchiridion and Discourses

course bannerI’ve been teaching Epictetus’ Enchiridion from the very first college class I taught, nearly 20 years ago, and not long after that, started to incorporate passages from his much longer Discourses.  If you’re interested in Stoic philosophy, or want to get a good grounding in ancient philosophy or ethics, these two texts are a must-read.

In this course, we go through the entirety of both texts.  I meet with students weekly through online video-conferencing (recorded for students who can’t make the sessions), answering questions, clarifying any confusions, and discussing how these Stoic principles can be applied to life.

Students engage with each other and myself through discussion forums in the course site.  I also provide learners with 10-25 minute lecture videos, lesson pages, handouts, worksheets, quizzes, and still other resources, all housed in one well-organized course site.

The first section of Epictetus’ Enchiridion and Discourses is enrolling at present. Sections offered will run through the following dates:

  • July 24 – September 3, 2016
  • January 8 – February 18, 2017

You can find out more about the course, pre-enroll for a class section, or sign up to receive updates about this and other courses, by clicking here.
